MPLA SECURES ANOTHER FIVE-YEARS TERM IN POWER

President João Lourenço of People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) is now set for a second five-year term after getting 51.2% of votes in last week's election beating Its closest rival, UNITA that had 44% of votes.

The Angola National Electoral Commission on Monday declared Lourenço the winner of the elections, giving MPLA a second term in power.

"This is a victory for Angola and Angolans," said Lourenço during the announcement of the results by the Electoral Commission.

However, the leader for The National Union for the Total Independence-UNITA, Adalberto Costa Junior has rejected the results, citing that they were rigged and the results do not much the party's tally.
