UTM SHOWS NO FUTURE IN LOCAL GOVT ELECTIONS

The local government elections held in three wards in Balaka and Chitipa has questioned the fate and existence of United Transformation Movement (UTM) as the party failed to secure seats in the wards.

UTM whose leader is Saulosi Klaus Chalima has failed to secure any seat in the election despite being in the government right now under the Tonse Alliance.

The unofficial results shows that Malawi Congress Party, UTM's ally in Tonse Alliance has secured two seats, one from Wenya ward in Chitipa while the other in Lupembe.

Among other victorious parties, Dickson Jackson Wasili who contested as United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate secured a seat for the party in Shire Ward - Balaka.

On the other hand, UTM has not secured any seat in any of those wards which has made people question if the party has future. Henry Ng'ambia who contested as UTM's candidate in Wenya Ward only managed to secure 221 votes. Ronald Kayira of MCP secured 1,663 votes in the same Ward.
