Despite losing power to Tonse Alliance, Democratic Progressive Party-DPP is blamed for the recent blackouts that are stressing most Malawians as Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola claims.
Matola who was holding a press briefing in Lilongwe to address the public on issues of incessant blackouts. He claims that DPP left Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) and Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) in crisis hence failing to recover.
The companies were supplying 444 megawats in the past 3 years but currently only supplying 235 megawatts hence the incessant blackouts.
Among other reasons, Matola points a blame on the cyclones that had hit the country early this year and destroyed Kapichira Power Station that has not been maintained.
“The unbundling of ESCOM has unleashed all these inefficiencies and persistent blackouts in the country,” added Minister of Information and Digitilization Gospel Kazako who blamed DPP's idea of unbundling ESCOM.
