MPLA SECURES ANOTHER FIVE-YEARS TERM IN POWER

President João Lourenço of People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) is now set for a second five-year term after getting 51.2% of votes in last week's election beating Its closest rival, UNITA that had 44% of votes.

 

The Angola National Electoral Commission on Monday declared Lourenço the winner of the elections, giving MPLA a second term in power. 
 
"This is a victory for Angola and Angolans," said Lourenço during the announcement of the results by the Electoral Commission.


   


However, the leader for The National Union for the Total Independence-UNITA, Adalberto Costa Junior has rejected the results, citing that they were rigged and the results do not much the party's tally.

FORMER ELECTORAL COMMISSIONER SENTENCED FOR OBSTRUCTION OF PRESIDENTIAL CONVOY


Chief Resident Magistrate Austin Banda has sentence former Malawi electoral commissioner, Linda Kunje to 18 months imprisonment for interrupting Presidential convoy in 2020. 


The former electoral commissioner was nabbed after she deliberately ordered her personal driver, Jones Tewesa to continue driving despite noticing the President Lazarus Chakwera's convoy. 


The two were arrested for criminal negligence hence the conviction. Kunje's co-convict, Tewesa, has been slapped with 15 months imprisonment.

Speaking on the matter, Kunje's lawyer sayz he is planning to file an appeal to the High court citing that the sentence is harsh.

PROPHET MBEWE DITCHES PP

 The founder of Living Word Evangelical Church, Prophet David Mbewe who joined People's Party (PP) yesterday has changed his mind and dumbs the party immediately.

 


Mbewe who is also known as the political leader for Freedom of Worship and Economic Liberation Movement joined powers yesterday with Madam Joy Banda's People's Party.

However, just few hours after announcing his collaboration with People's Party, Mbewe denounced himself from the alliance because PP failed to live up to their agreements.

 


"The major term was that PP leaves the Tonse Alice. As it is, I have no option but to side with Malawians. I was surprised that minutes after being welcomed, I was offered a position in the board of statutory cooperation." explained Mbewe. 

PP under Madam Joyce Banda joined the Tonse Alliance in 2020's re-elections. Since then the party has remained a member in the Tonse Alliance.

MUTHARIKA TO HELP IN RESOLVING BLACKOUT CRISIS

 
Just few days after Tonse government blamed Democratic Progressive Party-DPP for the incessant blackouts in the country, DPP has vowed to provide help to deal with the power shortage. 



Speaking during a press briefing held in Lilongwe, Malawians as Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola claimed that DPP left Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) and Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) in crisis hence persistent blackouts. 

The former president and leader of DPP, Peter Mutharika has vowed to provide technical experts to fix the electricity crisis in the country currently. 



Mutharika said this in a statement that was signed by his Spokespeople, Shadric Namalomba where among other things he disperses Matola's claim on DPP.

He then blames Tonse government to be back the incessant blackouts because of it's decision to cancel with Aggreko, a electricity supplying company that was contributing 78 megawats to that 444 megawats that the country was producing 3 years ago. 




Currently the country is only managing to produce 235 megawatts hence the incessant blackouts.

DPP TO BLAME FOR RECENT BLACKOUTS

 
Despite losing power to Tonse Alliance, Democratic Progressive Party-DPP is blamed for the recent blackouts that are stressing most Malawians as Minister of Energy Ibrahim Matola claims.


Matola who was holding a press briefing in Lilongwe to address the public on issues of incessant blackouts. He claims that DPP left Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) and Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) in crisis hence failing to recover.

The companies were supplying 444 megawats in the past 3 years but currently only supplying 235 megawatts hence the incessant blackouts.

Among other reasons, Matola points a blame on the cyclones that had hit the country early this year and destroyed Kapichira Power Station that has not been maintained.


“The unbundling of ESCOM has unleashed all these inefficiencies and persistent blackouts in the country,” added Minister of Information and Digitilization Gospel Kazako who blamed DPP's idea of unbundling ESCOM.

TONSE ALLIANCE NOT SHAKEN WITH AFROBAROMETER RESULTS

 

Despite the recent afrobarometer results showing that Tonse Alliance would be kicked out of power by Democratic Progressive Party-DPP, Chief government spokesperson Gospel Kazako says the Tonse government is not shaken hence take the results positive.


Kazako who is also the Minister of Information and Digitilization said this during a press briefing held in Lilongwe where he emphasized that instead the government will improve. 


The Afrobarometer results shows that Democratic Progressive Party-DPP would win election with 41.2% votes if election were to be held today. 


He added that the results only reflex the time the survey was conducted claiming they would be different if the survey was to be conducted today were the government has improved.

DPP SHOWS COMEBACK POTENTIAL

The Afrobarometer results shows that Democratic Progressive Party-DPP would win election if were to be held today as the results shows a lot of people would vote for it. 

The survey was conducted in February where a lot of Malawi responded that they would vote back DPP into power. 

"40. 7%  of men would for DPP while 25.7% would vote for MCP" the statistics shows. On the other hand, 41.7%  of women would also vote for DPP while MCP gets 27.3%.


The results came just right after the local government elections showed that UTM and other parties do not stand a chance against DPP as it managed to gain a lot of votes comparing to UTM despite both parties failing to secure a seat. 

This Afrobarometer results means that DPP has a potential of winning the national elections scheduled to happen in 2025 and it will have a lot of votes from both men and women.

DISMISSED DPP MEMBERS RETURN TO THE PARTY


Prolly a week after four Democratic Progressive Party-DPP members including the Vice president for party in the south, Kondwani Nankhumwa had won the case where they demanding a compensation from the party for their expulsion, the four has now withdrawn their demands. 


Nankhumwa together with Grezelda Jeffrey a Secretary general, Jappie Mhango a treasurer and Yusuf Nthenda Mulanje West DPP MP took the party in court last year after the four were expelled under unsound reasons. 

"We were not even given a chance to be heard before the expulsion was implemented as it is spelled out in the disciplinary framework of the party. As bona fide citizens of this country, we decided to exercise our right to legal redress, which is why we turned to the courts to obtain an injunction against the decision to expel us" said Nankhumwa on his Facebook. 


However, the four have now withdrawn their demands to be compensated with k87 million kwacha despite winning the case said their lawyer Cassius Chidothe who has was instructed by Nthenda. 

"We have decided to withdraw this claim in its entirety. We will use our personal resources to settle all outstanding legal bills pertaining to this specific matter and put this matter to rest" reads the statement made by Mankhwala.

DPP ASKS FOR DONATION ON FACEBOOK


Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has today on its Facebook page asked it's followers as well as other well-wishers make some donations to the party. 

"You can send you contributions to Honourable Kingstone's number on 099*******. Tetezani chipani chanu!" reads the post. 

There has not been any other communication apart from that on the Facebook page. 

However, DPP is planning to hold convention that is scheduled to happen next year to elect a president for the party.

PEACE RESTORES IN DPP


Just a week after there was misunderstanding in Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on who exactly is going to drive the party as the party president in the convention scheduled to happen next year, the party seem to have now restored peace. 


There has been a misunderstanding in the party as  especially among the party gurus that have shared their deep interests to run for president for the party.


The DPP Vice President for the Eastern Region Bright Msaka is among the party gurus that have already expressed their interests for president. On the other hand, Kondwani Nankhumwa who is a leader of opposition in parliament challenged everyone on the position. 

During press briefing held in Lilongwe last week, Msaka worried that what the party gurus are doing as part of sharing their interests for the president is disunifying the party. 

He said this during a press briefing he held in Lilongwe where among other things he highlighted his plan to revive Malawi once elected as president. 

However, there has not been any noise in the party as peace seem to have been restored in the party as the statement signed by Shadric Namalomba, Mutharika's spokesperson encourage everyone to be patient and wait for the convention.

ACB MAKES NO MOVE ON UTM

A week has now passed after the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) made an announcement to open investigation how on United Transformation Movement (UTM) managed to procure 44 vehicles for the party but nothing has been done by the ACB.


ACB received a complaint from Gosten Chinseu a month ago requesting them to investigate the source of funding for UTM's procured vehicles.


UTM purchased 44 vehicles worth 3 billion Malawi Kwacha for the party that were registered under the name of Khwesi Msusa who happened to be Saulos Chalima's close friend. 

The ACB made an announcement to open an investigation to find the source of funding that the party used to purchase the said vehicles. So far, the ACB has not made any arrests or communication regarding the investigation. 

The vice president of Malawi Dr Saulosi Klaus Chalima is also on the ACB's list of people that benefited from Zuneth Sattar.

UTM SHOWS NO FUTURE IN LOCAL GOVT ELECTIONS


The local government elections held in three wards in Balaka and Chitipa has questioned the fate and existence of United Transformation Movement (UTM) as the party failed to secure seats in the wards. 

UTM whose leader is Saulosi Klaus Chalima has failed to secure any seat in the election despite being in the government right now under the Tonse Alliance.  

The unofficial results shows that Malawi Congress Party, UTM's ally in Tonse Alliance has secured two seats, one from Wenya ward in Chitipa while the other in Lupembe. 


Among other victorious parties, Dickson Jackson Wasili who contested as United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate secured a seat for the party in Shire Ward - Balaka.


On the other hand, UTM has not secured any seat in any of those wards which has made people question if the party has future. Henry Ng'ambia who contested as UTM's candidate in Wenya Ward only managed to secure 221 votes. Ronald Kayira of MCP secured 1,663 votes in the same Ward.

UDF LEADS IN LOCAL GOVT ELECTION

Dickson Jackson Wasili who contested as United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate, has come out victorious in the Shire Ward by-elections in Balaka with 2,545 votes.

 

Wisili was competing with Ishmael Mpinda of DPP, Enock Gidion Chidothu of AFORD, Tindoh Matoga of MCP and Daudi Yasin Mpina of UP, out of all those competitors, Wasili was seconded by Mpinda.

 

The unofficial results in three awards, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has won two seats with one secured by UDF. 

24,849 voters registered but only 5,813 casted their ballot which means 19,036 registered voters did not cast their ballots. Out of the 5,813 votes that were casted, 78 were regarded null and void.

ODINGA CHALLENGES ELECTIONS IN COURT

Raila Odinga who lost to William Ruto has challenged the election results to be rigged by filling a petition to the Kenya's Supreme Court.
United Democratic Alliance's leader William Ruto won the Kenya's presidential elections with 50.49% beating Raila Odinga who had 48.85% of votes. 

Upon Kenya's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announcing the election results, Odinga bursted out claiming that the election were fouled. 

"We have a strong petition and we're hopeful that it will go through," said Odinga's lawyer Daninzo. 


 

 This means The Supreme Court has 14 days to hear Odinga's case and deliver a verdict. 

According to Kenya's constitution laws, If the seven judges rule in favor of Odinga, they could order a recount of votes, a fresh election, or declare him president.

NAMALOMBA OBTAINS COURT INJUNCTION FOR HIS REMOVAL

Shadric Namalomba who is DPP's legislator for Mangochi South West has been granted a court injunction holding his removal from the Parliament as the Chairperson of Public Accounts Committee.

 

Namalomba was last month replaced by Mark Botomani who is DPP'S member of parliament for Zomba constituency. 

He was replaced after Botoman won the election held in parliament on 18 July this year. 

Since then Namalonda has been commuting to the court trying to obtain an injunction for his removal from the Parliament. 

Namalomba's lawyer, Felix Tambulasi says the injunction simply means Namalomba has his position in Parliament back.

DPP IS DYING SAYS MSAKA

Bright Msaka who is DPP's Vice President for the Eastern Region has worried that the party is dying because of the division that is among the party leaders.

 

Msaka has stressed that there no unity in the party especially among all the party leaders which is also creating a division amongst its followers. 

He said this during a press briefing he held in Lilongwe where among other things he highlighted his ambition to run for presidency in DDP's convention slated for 2023.


   

"I will create right environment for all Malawians to realize their goals" said Msaka. DPP's top members that have shared their interests to run for presidency are said to be the reason why there is such division in the party. 


Kondwani Nankhumwa, Joseph Mwanamvekha and Dalitso Kabambe are among the list of top members that are causing the division because of their interests to run for presidency at the convention.

WILLIAM RUTO WINS ELECTIONS

United Democratic Alliance's leader William Ruto has won the Kenya's presidential elections with 50.49% beating Raila Odinga who had 48.85% of votes.

 

Wafula W. Chebukati who is the chairman of Kenya's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) broke the a news an hour after his Deputy chairperson and three of his commissioners disowned the results.

   

However, Odinga who lost to Ruto with a slight percentage said the elections were rigged. Ruto's election team left the auditorium before IEBC made the announcement.

 

"I want to acknowledge President Uhuru Kenyatta who has worked with me over the last last 10 years in various forms" Said Ruto who is going to be 5th president of Kenya.

ACB TO INVESTIGATE UTM

The Anti-Corruption Bureau has opened an investigation how on United Transformation Movement (UTM) managed to procure 44 vehicles that the party procured.

 

Following a complaint made by Gosten Chinseu requesting the ACB to investigate the source of funding for UTM's procured vehicles. It is alleged that all 44 vehicles that UTM has purchased are registered under the name of Khwesi Msusa who happened to be Saulos Chalima's bosom pal. 


The vice president of Malawi Dr Saulosi Klaus Chalima is also on the ACB's list of people that benefited from Zuneth Sattar. ACB Public Relations Officer Egrita Ndala has confirmed the development.

Concerned citizen Gosten Chinseu requested ACB two months ago after UTM purchased 44 vehicles at a cost of 3 billion Malawi Kwacha.

MUTHARIKA DISTANCE HIMSELF FROM MSAKA

  

The Former President of Malawi, Peter Mutharika has dispersed all the allegations that him and the Former First Lady Gertrude Mutharika have endorsed Bright Msaka to run for presidency in the DPP convention scheduled for 2023. 


The allegations that have been surfing on social media platforms that Mutharika and his wife favours Bright Msaka the DPP Vice President for the Eastern Region to run for presidency in DDP's convention. 


Mutharika has distanced himself from Msaka and encouraged Malawians to wait for the convention. In a statement signed by Shadric Namalomba, Mutharika's spokesperson. Mutharika also denies the allegations he endorsed Hon Dalitso Kabambe on the sample position as Msaka.

"All this is not true" reads the statement released today. The convention will be open to elect leaders at all level of the party.

Joseph Mwanamvekha, Dalitso Kabambe and Kondwani Nankhumwa have already shared their desire to run for the same position at the convention.

MSAKA TO CHALLENGE NANKHUMWA IN PARTY CONVENTION

The DPP Vice President for the Eastern Region Bright Msaka has expressed his desire to run for presidency at the DPP convention scheduled for 2023 against Kondwani Nankhumwa who is a leader of opposition in parliament.


Msaka who has been a Secretary to the President and Cabinet for 9 years shared his intentions to contest in the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential convention which Nankhumwa has shared also interests.



Meanwhile, Former first lady, Gertrude Mutharika has endorsed Bright Msaka as Peter Mutharika's successor in 2025 presidential election.

On the other hand, the leader of opposition Kondwani Nankhumwa had a DPP political rally in Blantyre - Ndirande sharing his ambition to contest at the DPP convention.

In his speech at the rally, Kondwani Nankhumwa made it clear that he will contest at the convention no what who will contest.



Joseph Mwanamvekha and Dalitso Kabambe who are well known party members are also among the contestants. Chimwemwe Chipungu, Dpp's Administrative Secretary has called Msaka and Nankhumwa to patiently hold their interests to run for the presidency at the convention until in 2023.

NAMIWA BACK IN ACTION

A Malawian rights activist Sylvester Namiwa of Action Against Political Impunity says they will hold massive demonstrations starting from August 18, 2022 to force president Chakwera to fullfil his campaign promises.


Namiwa who was allegedly abducted on 27th July 2022 and said today that they will hold demonstrations to force President Lazarus Chakwera to attain the promises he made during the campaign.

“The demonstrations, among many other things, aim at forcing President Lazarus Chakwera to deliver on his flagship campaign promises, starting with the scrapping off of presidential immunity and cushioning the vulnerable and the marginalized people in society from the skyrocketing cost of living mirrored through the ever-increasing prices of basic needs such as maize, fuel, cooking oil, bread, sugar and the collapsing economy. “ said Namiwa.

During his statement at the media briefing in lilongwe, Namiwa said the protestors will deliver their petition precisely to President Lazarus Chakwera to raise their grievances.

In his campaign manifesto, Chakwera through Tonse Alliance’s promised a lot of things which among them include the creation of 1 Millon jobs, reduction of presidential power and free electricity and water connection that many Malawians believes have not be been attained by the president.

According to Namiwa, President Chakwera is not living up to his campaign promises hence calling for the massive demonstrations that are believed to force President Chakwera.
